This property in Leamington has a front entrance full of character, with an arched recess, moulded plaster details either side and a glazed fanlight above the door. The aim was a very classy upgrade to the front of the house that kept its traditional look.
We fitted the Illinois by Rockdoor. It has two tall glazed panels with gently curved tops, a raised panel below them and a wood-grain finish, a style that sits naturally in a period doorway like this one.
We completed the door with the Heritage Plus lock, and it does two jobs. First, it places the escutcheon (the plate around the keyhole) higher up the door, where you would expect to find the key on a traditional front door. That keeps the period look rather than putting the keyhole down by the handle. Second, it locks automatically as soon as the door is closed, so the house is secure the moment it shuts.
The hardware was picked to match the door's traditional style. There's a bull ring knocker on the centre bar between the two glass panels, a Victorian knob in the middle of the door and an architectural letterplate near the bottom. All of it is in the same brushed metal finish, so the pieces work together as a set.
The result is a front door that suits the age and style of the house, with the security of a modern lock.
