Clear Answers When an Installation Is Disputed

Clear Answers When an Installation Is Disputed

Problems with windows and doors are not always straightforward. A homeowner may believe that an installation is faulty, while the installer may feel that the work has been completed correctly.

CGW Installations can inspect the installation as an independent third party and provide an objective assessment of what is visible, how the products operate and whether there are identifiable concerns with the workmanship or installation.

Our reports are available to both homeowners and installers. They are intended to provide clarity, support constructive discussions and help the parties understand what may need attention.

Important: CGW Installations’ Defect Reports and Condition Reports are not prepared for use in litigation, court proceedings or contractual dispute resolution.

Who Are Inspection Reports For?

For Homeowners

You may have recently had windows or doors installed but believe that the workmanship, operation or finished appearance is not of an acceptable standard.

An independent inspection can help identify visible defects, assess how the installation functions and provide a clearer understanding of whether remedial work may be required.

The report can also help you communicate your concerns more clearly with the original installer, particularly where you are unsure whether the problem relates to the product, fitting or surrounding finish.

For Installers

A customer may have raised concerns about completed work, withheld payment or made a complaint that you believe does not accurately reflect the quality of the installation.

An independent report can provide a third-party assessment of the completed work, identify any genuine defects and highlight areas that appear to have been installed to an acceptable standard.

This can provide useful clarification and help both parties discuss the installation using a clear written record of the findings.

Defect Report

Defect Report

From £249 Including VAT

A focused, entry-level inspection for specific concerns involving window and door installations.

The inspection typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes on site and is followed by an electronically prepared written report.

The report can consider relevant Building Regulations, the suitability of the product, installation quality, visible damage, marks within the glass and the functionality of the installation.

This option is most suitable where a specific fault or a limited number of concerns needs to be assessed.

Not for use in litigation, court proceedings or contractual dispute resolution.

Condition Report

From £499 Including VAT

A comprehensive, item-by-item inspection of windows, doors, conservatories or roof lights.

The inspection typically takes between two and four hours on site and is followed by a bespoke written report supplied as a PDF.

The report can consider relevant Building Regulations, product suitability, installation quality, visible damage, marks within the glass and the functionality of each inspected item.

Where appropriate, the report can also include recommendations for remedial work. Guide prices for potential remedial work may be provided upon request.

This option is most suitable where a complete installation or larger number of items requires a detailed assessment.

Not for use in litigation, court proceedings or contractual dispute resolution.

Condition Report

Which Report Do You Need?

A Defect Report is generally best where there is a specific concern involving one or a small number of windows or doors.

A Condition Report is more suitable where a complete installation needs to be assessed item by item, or where several windows, doors, a conservatory or roof lights are involved.

We can discuss the circumstances with you before booking and recommend the most appropriate report for your situation.

Final pricing will depend on the number of items, the complexity of the inspection, the property location and the amount of time required on site.

Report Limitations

Defect Reports and Condition Reports are designed to provide independent technical information and help the relevant parties understand the condition of an installation.

They are not expert-witness reports and cannot be used in litigation, court proceedings or formal contractual dispute resolution.

Inspections are primarily visual and functional. They do not normally include destructive investigation, dismantling products or accessing concealed parts of the installation unless this has been agreed separately in advance.

The report records the visible and accessible condition of the installation at the time of the visit. Hidden defects that cannot be identified through a visual or functional inspection may not be included.
